Following brochure leaks of the upcoming Subaru Forester facelift, the company has come out with an official release confirming the same. The upgraded car will make its global debut at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show which starts on 28 October.

As part of the upgrade, Subaru will give the Forester a mild cosmetic change and improve its overall safety package. A redesigned front face with fresh bumpers and headlamp design, the company claims, will bolster the SUV’s appearance. On the rear, a redesigned taillight adopts a sideways U-shape. In terms of mechanical upgrades, Subaru has altered the steering-gear ratio for improved steering response and has also optimized the suspension settings. On the inside, the door glass thickness has been increased and the sealings have been strengthened for lower NVH.

On the safety front, the stock safety package includes radar based detection of obstructions at the rear blind spots, adaptive driving beam, and steering responsive headlights. Side and curtain airbags have been made standard across variants.

Two engines are on offer: a 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed 4-cylinder DOHC engine and the same engine with direct injection and turbocharging, with five trims on offer for the former and one for the latter. The AWD vehicle gets either a 6-speed MT or a Lineartronic CVT.
