The number of deaths on Mauritius roads increases since January
Since the beginning of the year, the number of fatal accidents on our roads has declined. A senior officer from the Traffic Branch told the LeMatinal that only six fatal accidents were recorded in early January, unlike last year when that figure was 12.

However, if such accidents have decreased by 50%, this is not the case for the number of deaths. Seventeen people were killed on our roads so far, compared to 13 last year. Of these 17 deaths, there are 12 who have been victims of the accident at Providence Wednesday, January 13. Among the victims there were 11 Bangladeshis and a Mauritian, the driver of the van.

This carnage will be recorded as one of the worst accidents that the country has known.

A truck-load of 18 tons of construction aggregates and a van with 15 people on board collided around 7:30 am on the road to St. Julien. The crash was so strong that the passengers were killed immediately.

Police said one of the main reasons for this death toll is the narrowness of the road to St Julien.

The van was preparing to negotiate a curve could not avoid the truck, causing its skid. Thus, the van was found four feet in the air as the truck came to rest on the edge of the cane.

To minimize such accidents, essential measures will be implemented. Meanwhile, the Traffic Branch intensifies its awareness campaigns in schools and elsewhere, centers and other associations of the third age.

The police noted his presence on our roads: Operations “crack down” are conducted with energy and zero tolerance for discipline Mauritians deemed to be more irresponsible drivers than drivers responsible.
