That fateful Thursday the car carrying employees to their workplace had a small technical problem. Supposedly, the left passenger door was struggling to close. By the roundabout Caudan the door moved. Thus, the driver stopped on the highway up to Bell-Village to repair the door. The car driver, Clifford Spéville and a colleague came out to repair the door but found themselves blocked.
Clifford had to use one of the right doors to enter the vehicle. Spéville Clifford's colleague, still in shock, tells the story of the event. "Kan réparation ine fini moi ek chauffeur ti derrière van pé ramasse triangle, Clifford pé rentre dans van toujours, camion la in balayer li."
The truck was overtaking a stopped car when the accident occurred. The impact was so extremely violent that to the point where the victim was thrown a hundred yards away. "Moi ek chauffeur in échappe loin, ou imagine ou ti pou ena plis ki enn mort si nou ti alle derrière Clifford", he says. There were 12 other passengers who were sitting in the van. Fortunately the truck did not hit hard.
The victim was was evacuated to hospital for autopsy Candos. Clifford Spéville died of a fractured skull. His funeral was take place this Friday.
The truck driver was brought before the court in Port Louis where a provisional charge of manslaughter has been lodged against him. It was renewed in police cell. In a statement to police, the truck driver reported he was not driving fast. He said that the speed was 30 km/h because his vehicle was loaded with cement. The driver of the van was also arrested in this case. His vehicle would not comply with the standards of road safety. Both underwent a breath test which proved negative. Central Police Barracks, led by Sergeant Bonomally, attempts to determine the exact causes of this accident.
