Phoenix, Beaux Songes road 95 % complete, ready by end of August
Construction work of the Phoenix / Beaux Songes link road is 95 per cent completed and the road will be inaugurated by end of August.

This was stated by a senior official of the Road Development Authority (RDA). The work for the new road started in January 2009. The construction of the 6.8 kilometre link road is being undertaken by the Colas Company.

The road will go through the Jumbo roundabout from Sayed Hossen Road to Sonia Lane.

In addition to the Phoenix / Beaux Songes link road, a circular road will be constructed. It will pass through Sonia Lane, Unjore Lane, part of Solferino no 5 and Vostok road, as the residential lanes are too narrow to accommodate two-way traffic.

The 1.6 kilometre circular road will continue up to 3.7 kilometres to the Beaux Songes roundabout.

Pavements will be constructed on both sides of the Sayed Hossen Road. Another road from Solferino to Pierrefonds, measuring 3.4 kilometres, will also be constructed.

The project is being financed by the government at a cost of Rs 280 million.

There is heavy influx of traffic going to Flic en Flac and other places of the west. However, there is only one road giving access to this part of the island.

Hence, the main objective of the Phoenix / Beaux Songes link road project is to decongest traffic in this region.
