NTC to Face Tough Opposition from Staff Over Restructuring Plans
National Transport Corporation (NTC) employees are against the recent announcement of a restructuring plan from the company.

Trade union leaders including Reaz Chutto have demanded a roundtable to discuss the issue.

Union leaders from the Transport Corporation Employees Union and the Transport Industry Workers Union deplored the way NTC had carried out the restructuring plan.

The unions alleged they were not consulted which they deem a lack of respect towards employees who have devoted themselves to the progress of the company for many years.

They are also against the introduction of the Smart Card concept which they say has the potential to jeopardise the conductor’s jobs.

The prepaid cards will be used to pay bus fare and offer several advantages including a large labour cost-to-company reduction.

According to the company management, the use of these cards will reduce the flow of cash on the bus resulting in fewer thefts and attacks against their staff.

Negotiations are ongoing with certain employees over forced retirements but trade unionists have said they will not accept this under any circumstance.
