16-year-old dead in car crash at Vallée-des-Prêtres

The 16-year-old daughter, who was on board the car died as a result of the accident.

The driver of the car who was wounded, was taken to hospital for treatment.

On Thursday the driver appeared in Port Louis court under a charge of manslaughter in the presence of his lawyer Zahid Nazurally.

He was released against a sum of Rs 10,000 and recognition of debts of Rs 75,000.

Before his court appearance, the driver made a statement to the investigators.

He explained to the investigators how the accident took place.

The driver said that when he saw the truck as it was parked and in the process of delivering construction materials so he decided to overtake. But then the truck also started and drove ahead and the two vehicles collided.

The police have opened an investigation, to shed further light on this case.
