Hyundai North America has unveiled the next generation 2016 Hyundai Elantra at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. The new Elantra will begin arriving at dealerships across U.S from January 2016.

Compared to the model sold in Korea, the US-spec Hyundai Elantra has chrome inserts on the hexagonal grille and LED DRLs in the bumper. Measuring 20 mm longer and 25 mm wider, the new Elantra is not only lighter, but has a stiffer body structure thanks to the usage of Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS).

The 2016 Elantra will come standard with Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Traction Control, ABS, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and a new driver’s knee airbag. Customers can also opt for features like Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist, and a rearview camera.

Under the hood is an all new 1.4-liter T-GDI petrol engine, developing 128 hp and 211 Nm of torque. It is paired to a in-house 7-speed double clutch automatic transmission, and is capable of attaining a fuel economy of 35 mpg (14.88 km/l).

The other engine option is a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 147 hp and 179 Nm of torque. Transmission options for the 2.0-liter unit include a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.
