Ahead of its world debut at the 2016 Chengdu Motor Show on September 2 in China, posters at the venue have revealed the final exterior design of the 2017 Hyundai Verna.

It is expected to go on sale in China later this year, before it is introduced in key markets like India and Russia (as the Hyundai Solaris) next year.

The exterior was previewed by the Hyundai Verna concept from the 2016 Beijing Motor Show in April, featuring an evolutionary and more angular styling inspired by the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. Like the latest crop of Hyundais, it features a large hexagonal grille, sleek headlamps with projector lighting, LED DRLs, sportier bumpers with angular foglamps, LED taillamps, redesigned C-pillar and a moulded spoiler.

According to Chinese reports, the new Verna measures 4,380 mm in length, 1,728 mm in width, 1,460 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. Compared to the outgoing model, its wheelbase has been extended by 30 mm, thus increasing knee room for rear passengers.

The 2017 Hyundai Verna will launch with an option between 1.4- or 1.6-liter petrol engines developing 100 hp and 123 hp respectively in China. Transmission options could include 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. For the Indian market though, the petrol motors will be joined by the tried-and-tested 1.4- and 1.6-liter CRDi diesel units.
