The fourth generation Swift is currently under development in Europe, spyshots have reaffirmed multiple times during the past couple of months. The B-segment hatchback will move to its next generation with an evolutionary redesign, leaked official renderings, supported by spyshots of test mules wearing production body, suggest. The interior also has been completely redesigned.
The next-gen Maruti Swift will be based on the all-new Maruti Baleno's high-rigidity and lightweight new-generation platform, and this should make it lighter by nearly 50 kg in kerb weight. The current 1.2-litre petrol engine is expected to continue being offered in the next-gen model, while the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine will reportedly be replaced by a new 1.5-litre diesel engine developed in-house.
The Euro-spec fourth-gen Swift will be made in Hungary and likely be offered with the K12C 1.2-litre DUALJET naturally aspirated four-cylinder and K10C DITC 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engines. There will be the Sport variant too, packing the K14C-DITC 1.4-litre BOOSTERJET turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine from the Suzuki Vitara S.
