The big news is that the Grand Wagoneer will finally get some electric horsepower assistance. Jeep is also looking for its top-spec Grand Wagoneer to climb a little higher. At almost the same time as the teaser video dropped, Jeep filed a trademark for a new name that we think will go on the grandest of Grand Wagoneer models.
Grand Wagoneer Gets A Grand Makeover
If you're expecting massive exterior changes, then you don't really understand how refreshes work. Jeep won't be able to fix the Wagoneer's odd side-view proportions until the Grand Wagoneer (and the less grand Wagoneer) get a full redesign.
But Jeep has done an extensive job of changing the Jeep's nose. The Grand Wagoneer's face is more angular than before. It's also been simplified, with fewer curves and lines. The grille holds Jeep's iconic seven slots, but it's very short in height. An LED light bar covers the top of the grille, with LED elements that descend into the "teeth" of the face.
A Jeep badge sits prominently on the nose. The Grand Wagoneer was originally launched as a separate brand, so it never wore that logo. Instead, it had a very small Grand Wagoneer script on the top of the grille, which is now gone.
Other changes to the face include new driving lights that bear a resemblance to Volvo's Thor's hammer shape. They surround a massive lower grille.
2026 Grand Wagoneer Is Showing Its Plug
The 2026 Grand Wagoneer will also bring electric power to the big SUV for the first time. It won't be an EV, or at least this one won't be, but it will have a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The charge door is visible in Jeep's single image just behind the front wheel, while the fuel filler is visible at the back.
Jeep brands its PHEVs as 4xe. It's not clear, though, if this one will get the usual 4xe system. That's a 2.0-liter turbo-four with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic for a total of 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. In the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, it comes with a 17-kilowatt-hour battery for around 20 miles of EV range. A version of Ram's Ramcharger range-extender system that uses its gas engine solely to make electricity for the battery would be a slam dunk in this Jeep.
This one looks to be more powerful. Instead of six-lug wheels, the image shows eight lugs. More wheel studs means more weight-carrying capacity, so expect a larger battery pack, a beefier gas engine, or both.
Instead of 4xe, however, we wonder if it might be called Summit. Jeep just trademarked the name Grand Wagoneer Summit, and we expect it to be used on the newest model. The current Grand Wagoneer uses the strange Series I, Series II, and Series III for its different versions. Summit is a trim grade Jeep uses on other high-spec models of vehicles like the Grand Cherokee, so that could be the plan here.
Jeep first teased a PHEV Grand Wagoneer way back in 2022. It said then to expect 500 miles of range between gas and electric. The current Grand Wagoneer can do around 530 miles if you use every bit of its 26.5-gallon tank, so we're not sure what the result will be. At the time, Jeep said it was expected for the 2024 model year, though that clearly didn't happen.
Jeep says the 2026 Grand Wagoneer is coming this fall. We're not sure if that means a fall reveal, a fall on-sale launch, or both. Since it's badged as a 2026, it will most likely be at dealers by the end of 2025. It's coming fast with other new Jeeps, including a refreshed Grand Cherokee and the return of the not-Grand Cherokee.
