Well, here's Yamaha with a facelift that contradicts all of the above.
The Japanese bike maker announced this week the launch of the new version of the MT-125 hyper naked for the 2027 model year, packing a new look (that was achieved not only through new colors, but actual, physical changes as well) meant to bring it in line with that of its siblings from the MT family (MT-09, MT-07, and MT-03), but also to give it an even more urban look.
What Yamaha did was change the shape of the fuel tank, giving it more sculpted and aggressive lines, go for fresh side fairings with a transparent dark smoke glitchy pattern and the MT logo, and fit a redesigned, stretched seat.
The new MT-125 also makes use of blade-style position LED lights, LED indicators, and a revised headlight so that it looks different than it used to even when riding at night.
Wrapping everything up is, how else, a new paint scheme, a high-contrast one that includes Redline White (with or without a two-tone seat). This one joins the already available Ice Storm, Icon Blue, and Tech Black.
Mechanically speaking, the motorcycle stays true to the setup that has made it famous. That would be the 125cc engine sitting in the Deltabox frame, 41 mm upside-down forks at the front to hold it upright, and an 810 m high seat to hold the rider.
The hyper naked ships complete with a five-inch TFT display that can support smartphone connectivity (the Yamaha MyRide app is required for that) and allows access to turn-by-turn navigation.
Yamaha says that this latest incarnation of a two-wheeler that first saw daylight more than a decade ago will hit European shores in the first quarter of next year. The bike maker makes no mention of cost, meaning you'll have to get in touch with your local dealer to learn more about that.
As for the American market, the MT hyper naked family there doesn't list the 125 as one of the options. Six-model strong at the time of writing, the American lineup consists of the MT-03, MT-07, MT-09, and MT-10 – these final two accompanied by their SP variants.
For the record, the cheapest Yamaha hyper naked that can be had on the American market is the $4,999 MT-03, while at the opposite end sits the MT-10 SP, which sells for $17,499 in its 2026 model year incarnation.
