Toyota Land Cruiser GR Sport Rally Raid Debuts
Just 24 of these rally-ready Land Cruisers will be made for the Japanese market.

Overseas in Japan, Toyota owns a subsidiary called Toyota Auto Body. As the name suggests, the subsidiary does some work upfitting new Toyota models like the Land Cruiser. And its latest creation is the Rally Raid special edition for the Japanese market Land Cruiser GR Sport that celebrates the company’s efforts in the race series while upfitting the one that’s publicly available to consumers. Just 24 will be made, once again proving that all the cool Japanese cars stay in Japan.

The Rally Raid rides on 18-inch Enkei PDT1 alloy wheels featuring Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires. Just behind them, a splash of color arrives in the form of red brakes, and owners will also be outfitted with custom Rally Raid-branded mud flaps. Mechanical updates include new suspension and cab mounts. There’s also some new seats and graphics, the former being upholsteerd in leather and red suede for a sporty look.

As mentioned previously, only 24 will be made. However, just 12 will roll off the assembly line in Rally Raid spec. The other 12 will feature all parts sold as a conversion kit for existing owners, who will then need to upfit their own Land Cruisers.

These won’t be cheap, either. The special edition is priced at ¥9,380,800 ($63,500), which is a hefty upcharge over the ¥8,136,700 ($55,100) you’ll otherwise pay for the diesel-powered GR. Meanwhile, the accessory package costs ¥1,511,400 ($10,200). Moreover, it isn’t going to be easy for buyers to get ahold of either. A lottery will be held at Toyota dealers from September 11 to 28, after which the owners will be notified and take delivery in December.
