The Scrambler name goes back to a series of Ducati models from the '60s and '70s, and the new interpretation aims to reinterpret that basic design for modern sensibilities in an accessible way. The company describes the bike as: "Two wheels, wide handlebars, a simple engine and a lot of fun."
Unfortunately, Ducati is keeping the lid pretty tight on the Scrambler project. It's not releasing any technical details, and there are only a few teaser images at the moment. The company debuted a prototype cycle to employees at its Bologna factory and plans to slowly leak details until the bike's fall 2014 debut on a dedicated website. Sales are scheduled to begin in early 2015.
However, a teaser video does give some hints at what to expect. True to Ducati's marketing, this appears to be a stripped down, back-to-basics motorcycle, and, if not fully off-road capable, it may even offer a modicum of at least rough-road readiness.
