Grand Theft Auto V Takes $800 Million in First Day
Almost 14 million copies were sold worldwide in the game’s first 24 hours of release. It took nearly five years for Take Two’s Rockstar Games studio to develop the eagerly-awaited Grand Theft Auto V at a cost of almost $250 million.

But that amount was recouped more than three fold in just a single day. After going on sale at midnight on Tuesday, it took just 24 hours for fans to snap up around 13-14 million units of the fifth installment of the popular 16-year-old franchise.

$800 million was taken in first-day sales – more than the last GTA title took in the course of a year – comfortably beating the previous top-selling debut Call of Duty: Black Ops II that collected $500 million on its first day.

There are something like 200 wheeled conveyances to pick from (eventually) in Grand Theft Auto V; be they cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, four-wheelers, etc. That's a nice complement to the dozens of watercraft, aircraft and, well, oddball crap (airplane docking tug, forklift, tunnel digger of some kind).
