Honda CR-V Hybrid Prototype showcased at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show
Honda is showcasing the Honda CR-V Hybrid Prototype at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Along with the prototype of the hybrid SUV, the fifth generation Honda CR-V makes its European debut at the show.

Longer, wider and taller than the fourth generation model, the fifth generation model is the first-ever Honda CR-V available with a hybrid powertrain. The Honda CR-V Hybrid Prototype features Honda's two-motor i-MMD (Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive) system. The powertrain consists of a 2.0-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric propulsion motor and an electric motor generator. The driver can choose from three driving modes: EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive.

Honda has not released detailed specifications of the Honda CR-V Hybrid Prototype. Perhaps, the Chinese-spec Honda CR-V Hybrid now on sale could provide some more insight. The 2.0-litre petrol engine of the i-MMD system develops 107 kW (143.43 hp) and 175 Nm of torque. The electric motor generates 135 kW (180.97 hp) and 315 Nm of torque. The engine and electric motor both together produce 158 kW (211.80 hp). The fuel economy figure is 20.83 km/l.

Honda will offer the 2018 Honda CR-V in Europe with the i-MMD hybrid system, as well as the 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO petrol engine. The company will release more specifications closer to the unveiling of the production ready version in early 2018.
