According to the Detroit News, several drivers in Lapeer, Detroit, called police on April 13 2013 to report a swerving car down the highway.
By the time police arrived, several drivers had boxed the car in an attempt to stop the car after they saw the little boy behind the wheel. The car eventually stopped when the boy hit a stop sign, enabling another driver to pull the car keys out of the ignition.
Innocent act
The child told the sheriff on the scene he was “taking the car to get fixed”.
Deputy Karl Sapp said the toddler explained that he had snuck out of the house because he wanted more of the Chinese food his family had eaten the previous night for supper, according to the Detroit News.
Sapp said: “'I don’t know how he was able to operate everything and see at the same time. Apparently he was close enough that he could reach the pedals and accelerate and brake too.”
The boy apparently drove to the Chinese restaurant and found that no one was there, before he had hit a stop sign 5km from his home.
Police are still baffled as to how boy managed to operate his father’s Ford Taurus station wagon.
Meanwhile at the boy’s home, his family was unaware he was missing and were still fast asleep when police arrived to inform them of their son’s antics.
