Mercedes began teasing us with the official sketch of the Concept GLA a couple of days ago. Back then, we predicted that the press images of the car would be available by the end of the week, and here they are.
As you can see, the GLA is the crossover version of the A Class. While the Concept GLA shown at the 2013 Auto Shanghai had a very SUV-ish stance, the actual production version has been toned down and it looks more of a crossover than an SUV. For this reason, we think Mercedes is targeting the Volvo V40 Cross Country/BMW X1 rather than the Audi Q3.
The GLA is built on the same MFA (Mercedes front wheel drive architecture) platform as the A Class. We notice that apart from the taillights and certain bits such as the skid plate, rood rails and side running boards, there is a lot of parts sharing with the A Class. As far as the interiors go, do not be fooled by by the brown wood-grained interiors for the GLA’s cabin is lifted from the A Class.
The GLA will have its world premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show which is set to open for the media on September 10. India should be getting the GLA sometime next year, if not early 2015. Let us know your thoughts on the Mercedes GLA.
