Legacy STI Wagon and Sedan Launched in Japan
The limited edition Legacy STI sedan and wagon are now on sale in Japan only but there are no major performance upgrades under the hood.

Just as Subaru is preparing for the debut of its next-generation Forester, its STI performance division has just unveiled something a little more interesting. Available as both a wagon and sedan, Subaru has just unveiled details and photos of the limited edition Legacy STI. Which brings us to the sad part of this story: the Legacy STI is for Japan only, as Subaru keeps some of its best stuff for its domestic market.

All told, just 300 examples will be made and they'll be available to customers in Japan beginning now until March 12, 2013. Upgrades for both body-styles focus mainly on styling and handling, but the 2.5-liter boxer four engine remains unaltered, producing 173 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. So how come it wears an STI badge? Despite not having any extra power, STI has upgraded the suspension with new coil springs, shock absorbers, strut bars and a new exhaust system. Added exterior items include front and rear aprons, honeycomb upper and lower grilles, chromes exhaust tips and 18-inch multispoke alloys.

The sedan is given a trunk-lid spoiler while the wagon receives one on the roof. STI and tS trim badges are also tacked up front and back. The interior has been treated with titanium gray carbon trim, partial leather black seats, console covers with red stitching, sill plates, black leather sports steering wheel also with red stitching and a unique instrument panel. Pricing starts at 3,528,000 Yen, or about $45,100.
