Light Rail: Acquisition of Land Starts
The Mauritius Land Transport Authority (MLTA), in collaboration with Singaporeans has completed geotechnical studies between Curepipe and Port Louis.

At the moment, the Ministry of Housing and Lands acquired land that lie on the path of the light metro. Thus procurement procedures are underway for land Richelieu, Pailles, Phoenix, Trianon, Rose-Hill, AvenueCoriolis Beau-Bassin, Chebel, Port-Louis downtown.

With the geotechnical studies MLTA is present preliminary alignment prepared with the collaboration of Singaporeans. The six consortia involved in this project are in the presence of such data. These six firms will have time to evaluate the project and then discuss it. Companies have until May 9 to submit their proposals.

The Mauritius Land Transport Authority (MLTA) will make an assessment of proposals and begin negotiations with the top three bidders. By 31 October 2014, the contract must be signed. These six firms are two Indian companies, two Chinese, one French and one English. One that will pick up the contract must provide the design, financing, operation and maintenance of the light rail.

One thing is almost certain: the light rail will not fetch the path of the highway. It is also possible that there is an alignment between Bagatelle and Ebony to attract more passengers. As regards the carriage, it will be 45 meters. It is possible that there will be five trains. After 30 years of service, there will be a renegotiation between the consortium and the government. It is possible that after thirty years, the government took control of the light rail.
