Light Rail: Six Firms Have to Submit Their Proposals Until April 25
The Mauritius Land Transport Authority (MLTA), in collaboration with Singaporean experts completed geotechnical studies for the route of light rail between Curepipe and Port Louis. These studies were conducted primarily on the highway but also in cities.

The MLTA has already submitted all files for six firms were selected for the project. These six firms are two companies from India, two from China, one from France and the sixth of England. The six firms will have time to evaluate the project and then for discussion. Companies have until April 25 to submit their proposals to the MLTA. An exercise in evaluation of proposals will then undertaken. Then the MLTA negotiate with the top three of the six firms selected for the carrying out of the project.

By 31 October 2014 the contract will be signed.

The company that will pick up the contract is to provide the design, funding for the construction, operation and maintenance of the light rail.

One thing is almost certain: the light rail does not travel the path of the highway. The cities involved are Curepipe, Vacoas, Rose-Hill and Beau-Bassin. Then it will go to Coromandel, Great River Northwest before ending its journey in Port Louis. It is also possible that there is an alignment between Bagatelle and Ebony to attract more passengers.
