Since Dany Baharâs failed attempt at bringing a collection of new Lotus cars to production, the British carmakerâs parent company Proton has been sold to DRB-Hicom, a Malaysian conglomerate, and a new CEO appointed. Industry veteran Jean-Marc Gales has yet to go public with his future plans for Lotus, but an anonymous source claims he recently revealed plans of a new SUV and sedan to Protonâs board of directors.
Thatâs according to publication Utusan Malaysia, which also says the proposed models are unrelated to previous Lotus projects, namely the APX SUV and Eterne sedan concepts. To entice new fans to the brand, especially those all-important Chinese buyers who canât get enough of luxury sedans and SUVs, the carmaker sees it as a necessity to enter these new segments. Donât expect to see anything for a few years; in the meantime updates to the existing model lineup will continue full steam ahead.
