Take the bizarre example of Luis Motola-Palacio in Nebraska, who was recently sentenced to 180 days in the slammer for driving drunk with 100 chickens in the back of his SUV. He also received a $1,000 fine and lost his driver's license for the next 15 years.
According to locals news station 10 11 Central Nebraska, police first spotted Motola-Palacio on January 31 driving without his headlights and pulled him over. They found the poor birds, many of which were already dead, in the back of his vehicle. Officers took the 58 surviving chickens to the local humane society for care (pictured above). They were in pretty poor shape with missing feathers and exposed bones in some cases, but since then, several homes have adopted the mistreated animals.
Motola-Palacio was charged with aggravated DUI, driving during suspension and cruelty to livestock. Scroll down to watch a video about the case. Warning, it does contain images of the abused chickens at the humane society.
