Months after its domestic debut in concept form at Auto Expo 2016, the Maruti Ignis is still being tested on Indian roads, as seen in these spy shots originally published by Financial Express.

The Maruti Ignis' Indian launch has been postponed from festive season this year to the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year.

The Maruti Ignis is based on the company's new lightweight platform that underpins the Maruti Baleno. The European version, which debuted at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660-1,690 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height, has a wheelbase of 2,435 mm and a ground clearance of 180 mm.

The Maruti Ignis will be offered with the familiar 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines, linked to manual and reportedly automated manual transmission choices. The Euro-spec Suzuki Ignis gets an option for the SHVS mild-hybrid system, but it remains to be seen if that will be available in India. Like the Baleno, the Ignis will be exported from India.

Projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, 15- or 16-inch alloy wheels, multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control, SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system and reversing camera are expected to be some of the key features of the Maruti Ignis that will be sold exclusively through the NEXA dealerships.
