Metro Light: Bagatelle and Ebony Excluded From the Route
The move by Beau Bassin will change the landscape roundabout at the station Vandermeersch at Rose Hill with early indications next month

With the aim to start the work of this important road infrastructure construction by October 2014, a major step has been taken in the commissioning ofMauritius Light Rapid Transit System (MRLT).Indeed, the consultants of the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise working closely with the Mass Transit Unit of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, identified the route of the light rail between Curepipe and Port Louis, a distance of 28 km. With the choice of this trip, major changes are expected at the roundabout at the bus station Vandermeersch Rose Hill.

With last year refining planned the route, which was stopped, should not serve the triangle Ebony / Reduced / Bagatelle. The consultants favored the option of serving low-Plaines Wilhems regions as follows: Curepipe, Vacoas region of Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) Phoenix, along the highway to roundabout St John in branching to the left towards the road to join St John Victoria Avenue to join Rose-Hill and Beau-Bassin along Vardermeersch, Richelieu, Pailles, La Butte and Victoria Station (see graph against).
The exercise of Fine Tuning will allow experts to develop the details to determine " access to stations which will be an integrated system of comfortable and reliable feeder buses". However, one of the main benefits of the chosen route will be felt at the roundabout Vandermeersch, until a real bottleneck of the main road leading to Rose Hill.

In a written response to an inquiry from the member Deven Nagalingum, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Infrastructure parliamentary response, Anil Bachoo has confirmed the transformation project roundabout Vandermeersch. "Given that the Light Rail Transit project is currently being designed, this round-about and its surroundings shall be modified to provide for a comprehensive integrated transportation system. The Singapore Cooperation Enterprise is presently working on the design aspects and a solution might be obtained by August this year", he has understand.

"Traffic congestion: a matter of the past"

"The construction of the A1-M1 Link will constitute part of the permanent solution and with the coming of the Light Rail Transit and the redesign of that part of Vandermeersch street, the traffic congestion will become a matter of the past"  reassure the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Infrastructure on it.

Moreover, engagement procedures for project start light metro will be one of the priorities of the Mauritius Land Transport Development Authority with the recent appointment by the Council of Ministers Serge Petit at the head of this new organization, who will work closely with the consultants of the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise. Experts SMRT International Pte Ltd and Aurecon Singapore Pte Ltd have also been recruited as Transaction and Technical Advisers to the project Mauritius Light Rapid Transit.

In principle, the next major phase of the project will be the launch of the Request for Proposal, which should take place in November as scheduled. The realization of this project will be spread over a period of three to five years, says does one official sources.
