Discussions around the light rail were in Singapore during the last week. They had several high level meetings with officers of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure to address problems identified when the government decided to establish a Due Diligence Committee in April.

Singaporeans are agreed on all points raised but remained the largest massive investment, said someone close to that folder. Now there remains only the approval of Cabinet to get before the project know of future developments, including a new route to be defined. 

Initially, the light rail will only cover the journey Curepipe / Port Louis. The government will then see if we can extend the project to the North and South. Singaporeans agree with this proposal, also emphasized our interlocutor. The construction of light rail, which is estimated to cost Rs 25 billion, will be done in phases between Curepipe and the capital. 

The government wants this project for several reasons: first, to reduce congestion and, second, it is consistent with the concept Maurice Ile Durable and third, it represents a means of transport for the future. 

The State is committed to decongest the Cure-pipe/Port-Louis corridor is 25 km long. This project will be implemented in partnership with the private sector. Light rail will be about 13 stops in total. 

According to preliminary calculations, it will take 32 minutes to cover the distance between Port-Louis/Curepipe by making a stop about twenty seconds at each stop. Judgments which are designed to enhance business operations. 

A train can carry about 250 people at a time. Conditioning, each compartment will be 2.65 meters wide and occupy seats from 25 to 30% of the space. The possibility of bus passengers to deposit various breakpoints in the light rail is not discarded.
