Minister launches road safety training

The aim of the training programme is to train personnel responsible for fleet of vehicles in enterprises on managing risks on roads.

The deputy director of MITD, Pradeep Joosery, the chairman of the MITD board, Ashwin Ramdin, and the special advisor to the Prime Minister on road security, Ben Buntipillay, were present at the event.

Two training experts from Reunion island, Jean Duez and Daniel Raymond from Axe Reunion are conducting the workshop.

Bunwaree said that statistics shows that there has been an increase in death resulting from road accidents. He added, “In 2010, 160 people were killed on roads, 587 were seriously injured. In 2011, 59 persons perished in road accidents till May 26 and unfortunately the number of deaths has increased.”

He further said, “The MITD through the Centre de formation de Conducteurs Professionnel (PDTC) has been actively involved in the training of drivers since March 1997.
Till now, some 10,000 people have already received training.”

The minister finally said that the MITD is the most important training institute.

Therefore, have decided to come up with the workshop and18 enterprises have decided to attend the workshop.
