The name is evocative, he told British magazine Autocar, because the "oh" sound means "king" in Japanese.
"'EV' for electric vehicle, 'O' for king -- Evo," Aikawa said. "It has to be light and fast -- something performance-oriented. That's what we want."
It could be sold as a variant of the next-generation Outlander Sport, which is due for a redesign in 2016 with a plug-in hybrid variant in the works. Mitsubishi previewed the redesign with the XR-PHEV II concept shown in March at the Geneva auto show.
