Mahindra launched the new Mahindra Scorpio Pik Up in South Africa last week.

At the launch, the company announced that it will start assembling the pickup truck locally in 2018, says a report from IOL.

M&M manufactures the Mahindra Scorpio Pik Up in India. Starting next year, the company will ship the pickup truck to South Africa in semi-knocked down kits (SKDs) to South Africa. The company has seven manufacturing facilities in the African nation, but all of them make farm equipment.

Mahindra is yet to decide to go for contract assembler or an in-house facility for assembling the model. The company plans to start assembly operations in Durban or Port Elizabeth, as per a report from Engineering News. It will assemble the Mahindra Bolero pickup truck also in South Africa, from SKD kits import from India. Assembly of both models should start within six months. Mahindra will export the South Africa-assembled Scorpio Pik Ups to all the way to Egypt in the north of the continent.

The new Mahindra Scorpio Pik Up is powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk turbo-diesel engine that produces 103 kW (138.07 hp) and 320 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission sends drive to the wheels. A 4×4 system is optional. There are two cab styles to choose from: single cab and double cab.
