Next-Generation Nissan Micra Starts Testing
Indian version likely to be based on existing platform.

The next-generation Nissan Micra has started testing on European roads, ahead of an unveil which could take place later in the year. Spyshots (which can be viewed at the source link below) show the prototype to feature a design inspired by the Nissan Sway concept, which premiered at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

The 2017 Nissan Micra, for global markets, will be based on the Renault-Nissan alliance’s CMF platform. For markets in Europe, the hatchback will be manufactured at Renault’s Flins plant located some 40 km from Paris, France.

For the Euro-spec model, engine options could start from the downsized 0.9-liter TCe turbocharged petrol engine, mated to manual and automatic transmissions. This should put the new Micra on contention with the India-made Suzuki Baleno Boosterjet, the Ford Fiesta EcoBoost and other hatchbacks like the Honda Jazz, Peugeot 208 and the recently-announced Fiat Tipo hatchback.

For the Indian market though, the next-generation Micra is reportedly based on a modified version of the current Micra’s V-Platform. Indian Autos Blog understands from sources that Nissan has significantly invested in this platform at its alliance plant in Chennai, and is keen on leveraging volumes in the domestic market. Expect the new Micra to enter Indian showrooms next year.
