Peugeot Rifter 4x4 Concept Shows Its Adventurous Side
It has AWD, all-terrain wheels, and higher ground clearance. And we love it.

Well, that was fast. Peugeot needed only a couple of hours to give its newest addition to the lineup, the Rifter family friendly van, a concept version. It’s called the Rifter 4x4 Concept and is designed for “exploring large spaces” and adventures on “all types of terrain.”

And these are not just marketing slogans, as the study comes with an all-wheel drive, developed in cooperation with Dangel, and has a higher suspension than the standard model with 80 mm of additional ground clearance. The AWD system has three modes, controlled through a selector on the center console – 2RM with only front driving wheels for higher efficiency, 4RM where power is channeled exclusively to the rear wheels (for drifting... please?), and Lock mode where the rear axle is locked for maximum traction in extreme conditions.

Further enhancing the concept’s look and off-road usability is a set of all-terrain BF Goodrich tires, which combine “solidity, endurance and style” and provide “excellent traction.”

Power for the rugged van is provided by a diesel engine with 130 horsepower (97 kilowatts) and 221 pound-feet (300 Newton-meters of torque). It is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and should be able to stop even "the strongest slopes" from slowing you down.

he additional equipment of the study is actually way more interesting than its powertrain. The Rifter 4x4 Concept features a roof tent with colors matching the car’s distinctive two-tone finish, developed by Autohome. It’s really easy to use – you just need to unfold it from its housing on the roof bars and to deploy the sliding ladder.

Inside the canvas tent you’ll find a comfortable mattress, covered with the same durable textile as the vehicle’s seats. Peugeot says it’s also easy to fold and fits perfectly inside the tent, turning it into “a welcoming and relaxing haven.” Once you’ve had enough sleep, you can take a refreshing ride with Peugeot’s all-new electric mountain bike, the eM02 FS Powertube, mounted on the boot lid of the vehicle.
