Range Rover Sport Goes Off-Road by Remote Control

The British automaker's latest technological experiment allows the driver to operate the car remotely via smartphone, so he or she can get out of the cockpit, choose the best line, and steer the vehicle over and around obstacles. As a bonus feature, the system would also allow the driver to back the vehicle out of a tight parking spot – say, when a BMW driver (why is it always a BMW driver?) has blocked you in. Coincidentally, that's similar to the tech included on the new 7 Series.

Of course this isn't the first such new technology that Jaguar Land Rover has demonstrated recently. Other experimental advancements have included the Bike Sense, Transparent Bonnet, Smart Assistant, Virtual Windscreen, and most recently, the Pothole Alert system that was also installed on a Range Rover Sport like this one. At the same time, Land Rover is also showcasing a feature that will turn the car around in an automated three-point turn (or however many swings it takes) without the need for human intervention.
