Renault has unveiled an all new concept pick-up truck, dubbed as the Renault Alaskan, that previews the design of Renault’s first ever global pick-up truck. They have confirmed that the production-spec model will go on sale in the first half of 2016.

The Renault Alaskan adopts the brand’s latest design philosophy that influences latest products like the 2015 Renault Espace, Renault Talisman and the Renault Kadjar. Although not explicitly stated, the production-spec Renault Alaskan could share the platform and internals with partner brand Nissan’s Navara pick-up truck. Adding weight to this claim is the design of the Alaskan concept’s side profile, which appears to be similar to the 2014 Nissan Navara.

Renault claims that the production-spec model will try to capture the spirit of the Alaskan concept, and will be similarly sized. As for engines, it could source the Energy dCi 135 and/or Energy dCi 165 four-cylinder, longitudinally-mounted twin-turbodiesel engines from the Renault Master LCV range. It will have a maximum payload of 1,000 kg.

Renault had already unveiled their first-ever pick up truck, the Renault Duster Oroch, in June, which is exclusive to the South American market. The Renault Alaskan, however, will target markets across the globe, and rival pick-ups like the Mitsubishi L200, Toyota Hilux, and Ford Ranger.
