Headquartered in the spirited but scrappy city of Glasgow, is it any wonder their main product so far is tough, dependable-looking, all-electric 4x4s? It's almost like Munro was pre-ordained by Celtic mythics up in the highlands to build these kinds of trucks. Such a small upstart automaker can't do it on their own; they're going to need just a little bit of help. That's right, folks, it's crowdfunding time.
With the promise of a bespoke, all-electric, off-road vehicle being built right in the heart of one of Scotland's most historic cities, Munro has just announced an equity crowdfunding campaign to try and drum up support for what might be the most ambitious Scottish manufacturing project in ages. Between October 3rd and the 31st, the plucky startup will search across the globe for investors seeking their fortunes in the ultra-lucrative electric SUV market. At the other end of the proverbial rainbow are two equally appealing electric truck options, the Series-M Pickup and Series-M Truck.
With offerings announced like clever Lithium-Iron Phosphate batteries capable of 130 kW DC fast charging, industry-competitive interior refinement, and a burly, brutish exterior reminiscent of old-school Land Rovers, there's quite a bit to like when it comes to what Munro wants to offer their customers. But in a crowded EV sector that isn't all that kind or forgiving even to multi-billion dollar conglomerates, Munro's CEO and co-founder Russel Peterson believes his company's vision has what it takes to build an electric truck for British citizens.
"We have already had significant interest from the investor community and are extending that offer further to entrepreneurs, private individuals, and customers. We want to give them the opportunity to become part of the Munro story and take advantage of the unique solution our products provide and the significant imminent legislation-driven market opportunity the brand is poised to leverage," Peterson said of what his company has to offer the British consumer.
"Munro has paid reservations and sales agreements for eight pilot vehicles in 2023 and 221 production vehicles in 2024-2025. Our immediate priority is to deliver Series-M pilot vehicles to early-adopter customers to demonstrate our product-market fit. Our production spec deliveries will start mid-2024, and we plan to progressively ramp up production to 2,500 vehicles per year by 2027." With electric trucks being offered in "standard" M170 170kW and "high-power" M280 280kW configurations in both SUV and pickup truck variants, it seems that at least on paper, Munro is right on the money with what the average EV consumer wants and demands these days. Heck, with the right production quality behind its back, they could even do well in America, too.
