Sliding On Your Roof Is The Best Way To Win A Race

At the moment he drives for the WRT team and campaigns an Audi R8 LMS. He's had 18 starts, one pole position and 3 wins. Well, you can make that four now. As they say, a win is a win, but none have been more spectacular than his latest checkered flag. Sure he was up front for a bit, but there are those who reckon that he shouldn't have been awarded the win. Sadly for the naysayers, rules is rules.

When we first heard about the crash, the description made it sound like he slid over the line to still take the win, but while the win was his, that's not how it happened.

At the recent Macau Grand Prix, Vanthoor was up front and had just lost the lead to Earl Bamber in a Porsche when he clipped the right guard rail that sent him careening into the left rail causing him to flip. The car stayed on it's roof and slid for a while, but the incident was seen as being bad enough to stop the race, and in that situation the last full lap's results are taken. Win. Motorsport reported Vanthoor as saying: "I don't really know if I deserved it in a way, as I crashed and made a mistake and I am still a winner – which is very awkward. But I don't really know what to say. It would have been a better show for everybody without the crash and a better victory, but I don't know what to think about it."
