STC double fuel capacity
To ensure that the country has a strategic stock of fuel and avoid shortages - it is a priority of the State Trading Corporation (STC) today. It decided to build its own infrastructure for the storage of petroleum products in the future. If all goes as planned, the project will be completed in 18 months.

The goal is to double the current storage capacity of these products. Storage is currently provided by the private sector. STC, for this purpose, already identified land in the Red Sea so that this project can be realized. The idea is to increase the storage capacity of gasoline from 10 000 to 20 000 metric tonnes. The storage capacity of diesel will increase its part by 5000 metric tons. STC wants to get into this field because the storage capacity of petroleum products has not increased over several years.

The growth in consumption of petroleum products in Mauritius has increased sharply due to the expansion of the fleet. The State Trading Corporation wants to have a proper storage of petroleum products to prevent the supply is lagging behind as the boats take longer to come to Mauritius as they currently use a secure route to avoid the onslaught of pirates at sea . The State Trading Corporation also wants to ensure that the country has a strategic stock of fuel for vessels that carry supplies from the country are not delayed due to natural disasters.

This authority responsible for importing oil products and then distribute them to various private providers, wants to go faster with the proposed storage of petroleum products. That is why it has already begun discussions with oil companies for some quick metric tons of 8800 gasoline. In addition to this, negotiations are also underway with another oil company to have a cargo of 6,500 metric additional tonne of diesel.

The possibility that STC supplies the countries of the region to avoid the attack of pirates is also on the agenda of the strategy of the STC. Value date, the STC has signed a contract with Mangalore Refinery Petrochemicals Ltd. to supply the country at any time when the need is felt. The country has so far encountered no problems in the supply of petroleum products since the signing of this contract, says one STC. A guarantee to that effect had been signed between the supplier and Mauritius.

STC currently maintains excellent relations with oil companies including Shell, Total, International Engine and the Seychelles Petroleum Company Ltd. for this to ensure that there is no shortage of fuel on the market.

Current value of the storage capacity of petroleum products in the STC is as follows: Mogas 10, 100 MT, Gas Oil, 40690 MT, Fuel Oil, 30800 MT and DPK, 25, 580 MT.
