Strike Halts Toyota South Africa Production
Production at Toyota South Africa's Prospecton plant in Durban has been halted following a strike by one of its component suppliers, the automaker said on Wednesday, October 17, 2012.

Members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) embarked on a protected strike at the Toyota Boshoku plant in Durban on Wednesday.

Component supply affected

Toyota Boshoku is an independent component supplier to Toyota South Africa Motors, supplying seats and door panels for all locally-produced vehicles.

Toyota SA stressed the latest production halt was not instigated or supported by its employees. The plant had continued with its planned production until the Boshuku strike stopped component supply.

The Prospecton plant was closed earlier in October, 2012, following a pay dispute.

According to Toyota, the latest strike action is being dealt with by members of Toyota Boshoku South Africa and Numsa.
