Inspired by larger, liter-class Suzuki models, the Suzuki GSX-R250 (Suzuki Gixxer 250) features an aggressive and butch-styled fairing, a large, haunched fuel tank, split seats, plenty of aluminium/alloy parts and an exposed chain. The motorcycle also sports 'GSX' lettering on the fairing, indicating that Suzuki would not use the 'Gixxer' branding on this product. The Gixxer is seen as an upmarket commuter motorcycle in India, and the branding could put off buyers in the premium quarter-liter segment.
However, it is expected to borrow its powertrain from the Suzuki Inazuma, which was discontinued in India in March 2015 owing to poor sales. On the Inazuma, Suzuki employed a 248 cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine capable of 18 kW (24 hp) at 8,500 rpm and 22 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, and paired to a 6-speed gearbox.
While a market launch in Europe and other South East Asian markets could take place this financial year, Suzuki Motorcycle India is yet to confirm the product for the Indian market. In an interview from earlier this year, Mr. Suresh Babu Janarthan, Project Leader for CBU Products at Suzuki Motorcycle India, reportedly said that the company will launch such a product in India "when the time is right".
