Tens of Thousands of Vespas Will Turn on Rome at the End of June for Huge 80th B-Day Party
Italian scooter maker Vespa is staging a huge, four-day gathering of two-wheeled wonders in the capital city of Italy at the end of June.

Back in 1946, Piaggio & Co.'s single motor scooter turned into a brand in its own right. The moment would mark the beginning of a success story that still endures to this day, 80 years after that moment. And, to mark the occasion, the Italian company is planning the invasion of Rome.

That's right, this year Vespa is turning 80, and the crew behind incredible hits the likes of the GTV and Primavera is planning a huge party. I mean huge for the simple reason that everybody is invited, not only the tens of thousands of Vespa owners and their rides from 48 countries, but "anyone who has ever experienced the freedom of two wheels, even if just for a summer."

Vespa is staging the gathering from June 25 to 28, meaning Rome will be under attack by scooter owners for no less than four days. The company itself expects this to be the biggest celebration in its history, complete with music, games, photo exhibitions, and special guests.

The center of the fun and games will be the Stadio dei Marmi in the Foro Italico sports complex, which, for the purpose of this gathering, will be converted into a sort of Vespa village. It is here where a parade of the rarest and most precious historical models will take place, alongside a presentation of current rides.

The moment is important not only for Vespa itself and its fans, but also for the European country as a whole. Authorities, for instance, have even minted a celebratory coin, and the Italian poste issued a dedicated postmark.

For those who are not satisfied with only viewing a parade, and would like something more thrilling, the European Vespa Rally Championship will take place on the second day of the event, but also the Gymkhana World Championship – can't wait to see how this one will turn out.

The parade I mentioned earlier will take place on Saturday, taking thousands of Vespas all over Rome, on public roads. Once that's done, a treasure hunt will follow, as will the Vespa World Club awards.

On the last day of the Vespa Roma 2026 – 80 Years of an Icon gathering, those attending will be treated to a Concorso di Eleganza – it is here where the rarest and most precious Vespa models ever made will make their presence felt.

If you were expecting word of some anniversary scooter model being released to mark the occasion, know that ship has already sailed. Vespa already presented the Primavera 80th and Vespa GTS 80th, each of them carrying distinctive colors, special branding, and exclusive features.

As far as I am aware, no other major anniversary model is planned in the near future, but expect to see anniversary badges on pretty much all models in the lineup this year.
