However, the Texas-based automaker is now expanding the service to the rest of the world, and apparently, it's on its way to arguably one of the most congested places in the world: India.
As discovered by X user Teslasti Basti, Tesla is currently hiring a vehicle operator for Autopilot in India, specifically in Mumbai and Delhi. Now, these cities are notorious for their congestion, consistently appearing on the list of the most chaotic cities in the world. And we're not talking about vehicle traffic – both territories exhibit overwhelming crowds and fast-paced living, which can be disorienting to Tesla's bevy of sensors. If a final boss exists for Tesla's FSD, these two are probably it.
Yes, The Job Requires A Driver's License
In case you're interested (or if you're reading this from India), Tesla's job posting doesn't require much. First, you must have a valid driver's license and excellent driving skills (we're not kidding). You should also be highly flexible with strong attention to detail – most likely because the job is to gather real-world data, which will require the vehicle operator to write and report data analysis daily. Of course, familiarity with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving Systems (ADS) is a must.
The ad also warns that the job entails "driving" a prototype unit for five to eight hours a day. The classified mentioned that the schedule is rotating (including weekends), probably because the company wants to test its autonomous feature at various times of the day. Don't worry, Tesla is offering incentives for afternoon and night schedules, so you're covered if you'll be working during ungodly hours.
It's unclear whether this vehicle operator position means that Tesla is bringing FSD and Autopilot to India, or just gathering data to improve the upcoming version of the software. As you'd know, real-world data is important for these connected vehicle features, making sure that the Tesla EVs are equipped to handle various scenarios. With data from Delhi and Mumbai onboard, it should be a great help into the development.
Of note, Musk has announced that a new version of FSD, called FSD V14, is coming in a few weeks. This updated version will have ten times higher parameter count, meaning a much larger AI model so a more "human-like" behavior, plus expected improvements to safety and usability. Musk also touts that the new FSD would "nag" drivers less.
