The 2026 Subaru Uncharted Is Coming For Your WRX
Subaru has lagged behind its competitors in the EV space, with only the low-range Solterra on offer for the longtest time. But that’s changing in a big way for 2026. Subaru is updating an “all-new” Solterra; the brand launched the new Trailseeker SUV; and now, Subaru, is announcing its third electric SUV. Meet the all-new Subaru Uncharted, which arrives in early 2026.

Subaru is calling the Uncharted a “small, sporty CUV.” It’s seven inches shorter than the Solterra. Compared to the Crosstrek, the Uncharted is 1.2 inches longer, has more cargo space (about 25 cubic feet vs. 19 cubes), and has a “nearly identical” turning radius. Subaru also says the leg room is comparable to a Crosstrek.

The brand mentions the Hyundai Kona EV and Kia Niro EV as competitors, so it's safe to assume the Uncharted will be Subaru’s affordable, entry-level EV for America. It brings many of the EV tech improvements Subaru debuted with the 2026 Solterra with it. And, yes, the vaguely trail-oriented name sort of sounds like it came from an automated Subaru model name generator - but, the name has meaning, at least according to Subaru:

"The name Uncharted signals the vehicle’s capability and fun-to-drive nature, taking owners and passengers to their next adventure..."

Most Uncharted customers will opt for the Sport or GT trims. These trims come with a dual-motor setup putting out 338 horsepower for all four wheels through Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system and offer up to 290 miles of range (Subaru-estimated). The brand claims a 0-60 time time of under five seconds. These trims also come with roof rails. The Uncharted has a base Premium FWD trim Subaru will offer “in limited numbers.” It offers a range north of 300 miles, 221 horsepower, a lower price point, and, as the trim name suggests, front-wheel drive instead of AWD.

The Sport trim adds X-Mode Dual-Mode with Grip Control, a heated steering wheel, and water-resistant StarTex seating. The GT trim is a luxury trim with a panoramic moonroof, ventilated seats, an upgraded Harman Kardon sound system, and larger 20-inch wheels. All trims come standard with a 14-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual wireless phone chargers, and dual rear USB-C ports. All trims come standard with an All-Weather Package, which includes heated seats, heated mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer.

Subaru has improved its fast-charging tech from the first-gen Solterra. The Uncharted comes with a native NACS port for Tesla Supercharger access. It offers a DC fast-charging speed of up to 150 kW, which is enough to charge the 74.7 kWh battery from 10-80% in about 30 minutes. It also comes with a battery preconditioning system for cold weather and 11 kW AC home charging.

The Subaru Uncharted Design: Familiar, But Fresh
From the front, we see the same lighting signature we know from the Trailseeker and updated Solterra. There are distinctive headlamps, and the Subaru logo on the Uncharted is illuminated. Wheel sizes range from 18 inches to 20 inches, and the new compact crossover will be available with a two-tone exterior paint scheme on GT models.

The Uncharted's high beltline culminates in a sharp and sport rear end with sleek combination lamps and a silver-painted lower fascia. Many will be glad the Uncharted looks different from the is-it-a-wagon-or-SUV design, as we're used to from the brand (and what we saw on the Trailseeker).

Subaru plans to announce official pricing for the Uncharted closer to market launch in early 2026. From our deductions, however, the Uncharted should be the cheapest Subaru EV. Both the Hyundai group's entry-level EVs mentioned start in the $30,000 range. Therefore, it’s likely that the Premium FWD will be competitively priced with those vehicles. The ultimate price may depend on a resolution between the Japanese government and the U.S. over import tariffs. Subaru raised vehicle prices in June.

If Subaru can keep the price right, the Uncharted should be a vehicle that appeals to Subaru buyers. Per AutoPacific data, 63% of future Subaru buyers will consider purchasing an EV and 13% intend to do so.
