There's Now Another Shelby Mustang Model To Get Excited Over
Currently, there are quite a few variants to choose from if you're on the hunt for a Shelby-branded Mustang.

Along with the GT350 duo that can be purchased through official Ford dealers, there's also the more modest Shelby GT line-up and the not-so-subtle Super Snake and the even more outrageous 1000 edition. Now, though, we have another fettled Ford Mustang to be intrigued by, in the form of the new Shelby Mustang GTE. As the name suggests, the GTE has more in common with the more humble Mustang models that Shelby currently sells.

You can specify a GTE with a 335-hp EcoBoost four-banger if you really want (a far more appropriate 456-hp 5.0-liter V8 can be installed instead), and - because this model was co-developed by Ford Performance - a lot of the parts on the GTE can be installed on factory Stangs. For instance, the 'Handling Pack' that comes standard on all Shelby GTEs is the same one sold by Ford Performance for the bone stock Mustang, with the same story applying to the cat back exhaust and 19-inch alloy wheels that come as standard on the GTE (though the latter are shod in Shelby-spec performance tires).

If this all sounds a bit too tame for your tastes, then you'll be pleased to know that Shelby will happily cater to crazier client demands. Track-spec cooling items for the engine and brakes can be installed, more advanced suspension setups are available and you can even pick between two final drive ratio options (a 3.55 and a 3.73, if you were interested). Perhaps the highlight of all these GTE optional extras, though, is the supercharger kit for the 5.0-liter engine, with Shelby claiming outputs in excess of 750 hp are attainable if your budget and insanity stretch that far. Considering the GT500 is still a while away, a Shelby GTE with Aventador SV-matching power is a worthy substitute for the time being.
