Toyota C-HR Compact SUV Will Launch In Japan In December
The Toyota C-HR which was introduced at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show will go on sale in Japan on 14 December, 2016, says a report from MarkLines citing Japanese publication Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun.

This will make Japan the debut market for the C-HR. Following Japan, Toyota will launch the C-HR in phases in markets in Europe and North America.

The Toyota C-HR will be available in three models globally: 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol, 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.8-litre petrol-electric hybrid. In Europe, the turbocharged engine develops 85 kW (113.94 hp) and 185 Nm of torque, and will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission, in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive drivetrain configuration. The naturally aspirated engine produces 110 kW (147.45 hp) and 193 Nm of torque, and will be available with a continuously variable transmission, in front-wheel drive configuration.

The hybrid powertrain’s combustion engine produces 72 kW (96.51 hp) and 142 Nm of torque and electric motor generates 53 kW (71.05 hp) and 163 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.

The UK launch of the Toyota C-HR will probably happen just days after Japan, as Mr. Mark Roden, Toyota GB’s newly appointed Sales Director, confirmed in April while accepting his new position at the company that the C-HR will go on sale in the UK at the end of the year. The U.S.-spec C-HR will be introduced later this year and go on sale in Spring 2017 as a 2018 model. The Australian launch of the C-HR has also been confirmed to happen in 2017. A performance variant is also being considered, but even if approved, is far from launch.
