The Hilux has spent the past 50 years establishing itself as one of the best light-duty trucks ever made and as a serious off-road tool. For a vehicle this popular, Toyota couldn't let an anniversary pass without creating an ordeal, so it teamed up with Arctic Trucks for a special-edition package, the Hilux Invincible 50. Celebrating a half century of duty, only 50 units will be built.
Arctic Trucks, an Icelandic adventure company that specializes in off-roading, did the heavy lifting in this partnership. Starting from the ground up, the tweaked Hilux sits on satin black 16x7.5 ET05 wheels that are wrapped in 265/75R16 Goodrich K02 all-terrain tires. Toyota also added a performance suspension tuned by Arctic Trucks and Bilstein. Together, these mods raise the truck by 40 mm in the front and 20 mm in the rear.
Toyota made several visual tweaks as well. The front and rear fenders are flared, and the rear gets a double hoop sports bar. Four Vision X lights top the rear bar for the true adventure look. The Invincible 50 also has Arctic Trucks mud flaps, a Line-X bed liner, and rear parking sensors. Possibly our favorite feature, however, is the gigantic TOYOTA logo on the rear tailgate.
The rest of the changes are typical special-edition goodies. The cabin is highlighted by a numbered Invincible 50 plaque, while chrome badges are found on the doors, tailgate, rear bar cage, and lighting. Black is the only paint color available.
All Invincible 50s start as a double-cab Hilux Invincible with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel and a six-speed automatic transmission. Although price has yet to be set, orders will open Nov. 1, with deliveries starting in December and carrying into the new year.
