Triumph shows off 2012 Speed Triple R, Tiger Explorer 1200 and Steve McQueen Edition ahead of EICMA
Triumph has dusted off the specifications for the company's 2012 Speed Triple R as well as next year's Tiger Explorer 1200 and a new Steve McQueen tribute bike.

The 2012 Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 (pictured above) will receive a full unveil at this year's EICMA show. That means that details are scarce on the BMW GS-fighting bigger brother to the Tiger 800, but we do know that the machine will come equipped with a throttle-by-wire system as well as switchable ABS and traction control as standard equipment... not to mention the 1200cc inline-three engine.

Like the 2012 Explorer, the Speed Triple R boasts a host of improvements over the last iteration, with a new Ohlins NIX30 43mm fork and a TTX36 rear shock as well as a set of PVM five-spoke forged aluminum wheels that are a full 3.5 pounds lighter than the standard Speed Triple hardware. A set of four-piston Brembo monoblock calipers help increase the bike's braking performance by around five percent, and an anti-lock braking system is also available at an additional cost. Unfortunately, the bike will hold onto its painfully-ugly headlight array for at least another year.

Lastly, Triumph is paying homage to Steve McQueen with the fittingly named Triumph Steve McQueen Edition. The Bonneville T100 is inspired by the actor's own Trophy TR6 and wears a matte green paint scheme along with stenciled Triumph logos in black along the bike's tank. Both side covers are adorned with McQueen's signature, while a solo seat and plenty of blacked-out hardware wrap up the changes. Triumph only plans to produce 1,100 examples of the Steve McQueen Edition, and full specs will be unveiled alongside those for the Speed Triple R and Tiger Explorer 1200 at EICMA.
