Yamaha Readies Electric Bikes and Awesome Cafe Racer for Tokyo
Yamaha is rolling in to the Tokyo Motor Show this year with a variety of motorcycle concepts: several that look forward and one that looks back.

The retro cafe racer pictured above is based on the Yamaha Bolt. The concept bike features matte black detailing, a single cowled seat, dark brown leather surfaces and downturned handlebars with underslung mirrors, all of which goes to show the possibilities customers have at their disposal when customizing their rides. Power is provided by a 950cc air-cooled SOHC 4-stroke V-twin.

In stark contrast, the remaining concepts show the way forward for Yamaha's future in electric bikes. There's the PES1 and PED1, a streetfighter and dirt bike that feature a Yamaha Smart Power Module (a brushlesss DC motor and lithium-ion battery) with a manually-shiftable automatic transmission packed into a monocoque chassis.

There's also an electric version of Yamaha's take on the Vespa called the EVino, an electric children's dirt bike called the EKids and a classically-styled electric bicycle dubbed Epsilon Project 01. The Tricity three-wheeled scooter is also making its Japanese debut at the show alongside the MT-07 streetfighter.
