1,900-hp Rimac C_Two electric supercar is Richard Hammond-proof

All's well that ends well, especially when you escape relatively unharmed after driving a 1,000+ horsepower supercar off a mountain.

That's exactly what happened last summer when Richard Hammond, former host of BBC's "Top Gear" and now a presenter on Amazon Prime's "The Grand Tour," got things wildly out of shape during a Swiss hillclimb event while driving a Rimac Concept_One electric supercar.

The 1,200-horsepower Croatian-built creation ended up careening hundreds of feet down the mountain. It soon burst into flame and turned into one very expensive charcoal briquet. Luckily, Hammond had exited the vehicle before the fire and the worst of his injuries included a broken leg.

To commemorate the occasion at this year's Geneva Motor Show, Rimac added a touch of dark humor to its latest all-electric hypercar, the C_Two. This electric-powered exotic now has more than 1,900 horsepower and, according to Rimac's stopwatch, accelerates from 0-100 km per hour in 1.8 seconds.

In case you're wondering that's approximately a half-second faster than the mighty Bugatti Chiron. Top speed of this latest Rimac is only 258 mph, however. So at least the big, bad Bugatti — with its electronically-limited top speed of 420 km/h — still has this EV upstart covered.

To keep occupants safe — and prevent another Hammond-esque grilling — Rimac positioned a small fire extinguisher in the vehicle. It's held in place by a leather strap that reads "In case of hill climb, extinguish fire."

It's good to see Rimac has a (somewhat twisted) sense of humor about a T.V. presenter destroying a million-dollar automobile. Better still is news that Hammond himself says he is proud to have finally influenced the design of a car.
