Third Phase of Widened M1 Unveiled
The third phase of the widening of the M1 motorway on both sides between Phoenix and Port Louis was unveiled on Monday by VPM and minister of Public Infrastructure Anil Bachoo.

The works consist of widening of the motorways over a length of 7 km to provide an additional lane 3.5 metres wide. It also includes widening of two existing bridges northbound at Trianon and the demolition of bus lay-bys and shelters and reconstruction of the same.

The contract for phase three was awarded to Gamma Civic in November 2010 for Rs 239 million. Work started in January 2011.

Minister Bachoo told that the entire project spanning four phases has necessitated an investment of Rs 1 billion. He said, “With the development projects, I hope that the road capacity goes up by 50 % and increases traffic fluidity.” He added, “I wish to thank the police and the technicians who worked day and night for the completion of the project.”
