2015 Fiat 500X Launched in South Africa
The ‘soft crossover’ is based on a familiar design which borrows cues from the standard 500. For a rugged appeal, Fiat has outfitted the 500X with roof rails, subtle body cladding, skid guards and a tougher suspension with slightly increased ground clearance.

It measures 4,250 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,610 mm tall. Fiat will offer the 500X in three variants, the 500X Pop Star, 500X Cross and 500X Cross Plus. Exterior options include 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels and a choice of seven exterior colours.

The 500X’s cabin can be customized with upto seven interior configurations. It comes equipped with a standard 5-inch Uconnect infotainment system (optional six-inch touchscreen also available) with bluetooth connectivity, AUX and USB ports, and voice command function. The boot space of 500X is a paltry 245-litre. Safety features include six airbags, LED DRLs, cornering fog lamps and a sophisticated ESC system, while optional equipment offered are a Lane Assist system and Blind Spot Assist.

Based on Fiat’s Small Wide platform, the 500X packs a 1.4-litre turbo MultAir II engine or a 1.6-litre E-TorQ unit. The former produces 138 hp, while the latter delivers 108.5 hp. There are three transmission options available – a five-speed manual gearbox, six-speed manual gearbox and six-speed dual clutch transmission.
