Yamaha has unveiled a 2-door mid-engined sports car concept at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show today, which tries to pair the fun of a motorcycle with Gordon Murray’s know-how of chassis and tech.

Dubbed as the Yamaha Sports Ride Concept, it’s designed along the lines of a compact 2 seater mid-engined sports car like the Alfa Romeo 4C and Lotus Elise. It rides on a carbon fiber tub designed by Gordon Murray, who was responsible for the development of the legendary McLaren F1.

The carbon fiber tub is built using an innovative process called iStream, which allows a series of vehicles to be constructed using similar methods. This process was first showcased in the Yamaha Motiv city car at the same venue in 2013.

The Sports Ride Concept measures 3,900 mm long, 1,720 mm wide and 1,170 mm high. Thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber, the concept weighs just 750 kg.
