Patent sketches of the 2016 Honda Freed have leaked, ahead of an expected launch in September. It gives a first proper look at the exterior design of the next gen Freed.

Seemingly identical to the test mule seen in recent spyshots, the next generation Honda Freed will feature Honda’s ‘Solid Wing face’ design, sleek headlamps with LED DRLs, redesigned bumper with a wide intake, and a new hood.

At the back, the new Freed gets vertical wraparound taillamps repositioned towards the D-pillar, a re-profiled bumper with vertical reflectors on either side and a roof spoiler (not seen in the patent sketches). The next gen Honda Freed reportedly measures 4,250 mm long, 1,695 mm wide and 1,710 high.

Under the hood, the 2016 Honda Freed will reportedly continue to offer a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine equipped with direct injection at launch, while the rumored 1.0L Turbo variant is expected to arrive at a much later time. The next gen Honda Freed hybrid replaces the IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) system for Honda’s i-DCD dual clutch hybrid system. It combines the 1.5L engine with an electric motor and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
